Nickel Internal Door Locks

Make sure your door is properly hung when it's being installed, the gap between the frame and the door should be uniform across the top and the sides.

Check the adjacent hardware

The hinges and strike plates, which are also part of the door hardware, can cause the door to sag and prevent break-ins. The deadbolt plate should be fastened to the wall frame with long screws, similar to the hinge screws. The dead-latch and deadbolt should be properly aligned to prevent malfunctioning locks. The deadbolt should operate freely with the door closed; you should not have to push, pull, or lift the door in order to operate the lock.

Clean the locks properly

Locks are quite simple to clean; all you need to do is wipe the outside of the lock and the door handle with a moist cloth or some mild detergent and water. Use of any abrasive chemical cleaner should be avoided as it will further harm the lock. The protective coating on most locks lasts for years, but not in situations of severe usage.

Lubricate

Generally, locks require routine lubrication. Use of items containing petroleum should be avoided as this could further harm the lock. Although Teflon and other dry lubricants are the easiest to use and perform best, graphite lubricants still function effectively. Once the oil has been sprayed into the keyway, insert the key and turn it in and out several times. Wipe out any debris that may have come out with the key. This can be completed once a year. If further lubrication is required, the locksets must be taken out of the door before applying it.
